Food Review: Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert

Hello guys!

So a couple of weeks ago, the family and I celebrated the momsie's birthday at Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert at 1 Utama Shopping Centre!

Was there for a food review session and they were so kind to involve my whole family! It was their first ever food review and they were so excited at trying everything!

For those of you who frequent 1 Utama Shopping Centre a lot (like myself), you would have noticed a new restaurant at Lower Ground Floor Oval (New Wing), joining an array of eateries available at the mall.

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert may be a new addition to our Malaysian food scene, but it surely is no stranger to our neighbours in Singapore, as there are altogether 18 successful outlets in Singapore alone! That's super crazy!!

The spacious outlet offers a bright, contemporary and relaxed atmosphere that is ideal for family bonding, intimate catch-ups and group gatherings. With ample space and seatings available, you'll be spared waiting and queuing time, and dive straight to the food!

Being a fan of Hong Kong dimsums and desserts myself, I was excited to taste their signature dishes! With over 60 items on the menu from HK dimsums, snacks, main dishes to desserts, it was impossible to try everything so we were served the ones that were the signatures and highlights.

The counter from which all the yummy food and drinks were served!

Alright, on to the food and drinks.

Lychee Peppermint- RM6.50

It was the perfect refreshing drink to pick up after a long day at work! Sweet, fizzy with a hint of peppermint topped with juicy lychees! Me and my sisters loved this!

Green Lime with Plum Juice- RM6.50

However, if you don't fancy fizzy drinks, here's one that'll suit your taste. Plums + Lime, the perfect thirst-quenching combo! The sweet-sour balance was just right, and promotes a good appetite too, I must add!

Crispy Salmon Skin with Pork Floss- RM6.50

For starters, we were served these wonderful crispy salmon skin pieces to tickle our taste buds. We took them in like chips cos they were oh-so-fragrant and crunchy! Salmon taste was evident in each bite, and the pork floss made a good complement to the snack plate.

She loved the Crispy Salmon Skin so much she had most of ours on top of hers!

Snowy Char Siew Bun- RM7.50

Combination of sweet + salty soft crust on the outside, with warm, flow and fragrant char siew on the inside! Hands down one of my favourites of the evening.

Yum yum!

Duo of HK Siew Mai (RM6.50) + HK Carrot Cake (RM6.50)

Since we were served lots of food that evening, the lovely team at Sheng Kee gave us one of each to taste, which was perfect cos we wouldn't have been able to stomach everything otherwise!

Siew Mai was crunchy, with a big, juicy shrimp in it. Carrot cake was nice too, soft on the inside with a light crisp on the skin.

SK Signature Combination Noodle- RM17.90

The photo above is a sized-down version for food review purpose only. The retail portion is much bigger than this definitely! Everything in the dish was nice. The Char Siew's and Wanton's add flavour and taste to the entire dish.

Charity all excited to try!

Serene and momsie.

Braised Pork Belly with Mui Choy Rice- RM14.90

Also, another sized down version for food review purpose only. I've always been a fan of this dish and was delighted to know that they served this too! Pork was juicy, entire dish was tasty. Overall a good dish.

Yolk Custard Bun- RM7.50

This was one of my absolute favourites of the night! The warm salted egg yolks that oozed out when the bun was being torn into two tasted heavenly!

Look at that! *heart-eyed emoji*

Quickly stole a few photos and ate it hot! So, so yummy!
Look how it matched my top too :P

Then it was dessert time! We gave the momsie a little surprise (actually not so surprising cos she saw us bringing the cake to the counter so...) birthday celebration, and the dad, being a pro at Youtube video searches, played a Happy Birthday song sung by...

Alvin and the Chipmunks! :')

Yea...we were like,

It was a wonderfully low res one too!

The desserts arrived and we couldn't help arranging them nicely around the cake! :P

Awwwww #relationshipgoals

Mummy and her 7 princesses!

Family pic (missing Boon).

After quickly snapping some photos, we dived into the desserts straight away!

SK Mango Pomelo Sago- RM9.50

This was one of their signature desserts! Thick Filipino mango cubes served chilled among juicy pomelo pulps and sago. Surely a crowd's favourite because all of us loved it!

Yuan Yang Paste- RM7.50

A pretty mix of black sesame and almond soup served warm. Fans of sesame paste and almond soup would love this as the tastes were distinct.

All of us took individual photos with the moms cos we realised that we hardly do that anymore! Lots of group photos but never ones we could use for Instagram Mother's Day wish post. You know what I mean :P

A huge thanks to Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert for the warm hospitality and amazing service towards me and my family that evening! The team was quick to attend to our every request, and answered every question with precision. Food was good and I'd return with my family again, for sure. A great place for family meals, especially when everyone has different preferences for different dishes!

When I return to Sheng Kee, I'll definitely be getting my Lychee Peppermint drink along with the Snowy Char Siew Bun, HK Siew Mai, Yolk Custard Bun and SK Mango Pomelo Sago! :D
