Posted this photo on my Instagram and Facebook a couple of weeks ago and received so many comments asking if I was expecting. Haha didn't know it could look so deceiving! To be honest it does look like undergoing a pregnancy ultrasound scan, doesn't it? :P
Anyways, I'm glad to finally be able to share with you on my Liposonix treatment courtesy of the wonderful team at Solta Medical!
When I first received the invitation to undergo the Liposonix treatment, I had lots of mixed feelings. Was definitely excited and happy that I get to lose stubborn fats that I'd been struggling to combat in specific areas on my torso, and at the same time, I had a lot of questions on the Liposonix treatment.
What exactly is Liposonix? How is it different from the more commonly known Liposuction?
After I shared a few photos on social media about going for consultation and treatment for Liposonix, my friends who saw me after that tend to ask, "Hey, so how was your Liposuction thing? How is it wan ah?"
Lol! I don't blame them cos I, myself was new to the Liposonix treatment too! So to help you guys understand better, here are the differences between Liposuction and Liposonix:
"Liposuction removes fats from the body using suction. During Liposuction, small, thin, blunt-tipped tubes (cannula) are inserted through tiny cuts in the skin. Fat is suctioned out through these tubes as the doctor moves the tubes around under the skin to target specific fat deposits.
You may have to wear the compression garment or wrap for 3-4 weeks. Expect a lot of bruising and swelling for at least the first 7-10 days." (webbed.com)
It is an invasive surgery technique, and has potential side effects such as scaring and downtime of a few days to weeks may be needed.
On the other hand, "Liposonix is a scientifically and clinically proven non-invasive body contouring solution designed to selectively target and destroy unwanted subcutaneous fat tissues. It delivers high-intensity focused ultrasounds (HIFU) energy to create a focal zone of heating, resulting in a dual tissue response: thermal destruction of targeted fat cells and contraction/thickening of subcutaneous collagen. Destroyed fat cells are cleared from the body through a natural healing process within 8-12 weeks. A single treatment results in an average reduction of one dress or pant size (1 inch or 2.5cm).
"Liposonix is not Liposuction or surgery, is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle and exercise, and is not a way to lose weight. But it is a quick, easy way to help you slim that last inch and hit your personal shape goals." (liposonix.com)
Furthermore, I think the key advantage of going for Liposonix is that it is a non-invasive body contouring treatment with little to no down time and no side effects. That means there's no poking/cutting/injecting into my skin (which I fear most), scarring, and best of all, little to no down time at all!
More info on Liposonix later in the post. Now I shall share with you the whole experience, starting with my consultation session with Dr. Wong at Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre, Tropicana City Mall a few weeks before my Liposonix treatment.
This session was for me to better understand what Liposonix was all about from the professional himself, and at the same time for my doctor to see if I was suitable to undergo Liposonix.
Candidates must meet the requirements below to qualify for the Liposonix treatment:
1. Be able to "pinch-an-inch" (2.5cm) of fat in the treatment areas (in my case, my tummy area)
2. Have a body mass index equal to or less than 30
3. Have good overall health
4. Have realistic expectation about the results (and not expecting major weight loss, etc.)
I qualified for all of the above, so next was to see how many "boxes" I'll need for my treatment!
Dr. Wong used a white liner pen to identify my treatment areas, and draw on my tummy to gauge how many "boxes" I'll be targetting. You'll know what I'm talking about soon enough ;)
Now on to treatment day, which took place at Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre in KL on Jan 8, 2015. What a great way to begin the year! By killing my fats! :P
It was a real sophisticated setting in here which put me at ease before my treatment.
Was led to a room by Dr. Wong's wife, Dr. Jacqueline for weigh-in. Just needed to step onto the machine, hold the handles at the side and it'll automatically generate all the info my doctor needed, including body composition analysis, muscle-fat analysis, etc.
Here's my report. Don't see la very paiseh :/
Then I was led to the treatment room, where I changed into my treatment outfits prepared by Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre.
Do I look like Pocahontas? ;) Haha!!
That's the Solta Medical Liposonix machine that was about to work wonders on my tummy!
But before that, some before photos for record purposes.
Then, on to drawing the "boxes" on my tummy!
Using these! Feels like art class all over again lol.
Then it's measuring time!
See, the truth is revealed. For those of you who think I'm not fat, here's the proof. I may not be fat, but I sure do have stubborn fats around my tummy that I hide underneath all that clothing. These fats are accumulated over the years, all the fatty, processed food that I consumed for all these years. I must say for the past few years (especially after the wedding), I let loose and hardly controlled my diet cos I felt my happiness was more important. Plus, it sure doesn't help that I've a hubby who loves food as much as I do, and who loves me whether I'm slim or chubby. That made me real comfortable to a point that I unknowingly rebelled and didn't watch my diet at all.
Felt the difference in the first 2 years of our marriage. Gained a pant size and instead of wearing XS like before, I'm now a S-M size. It began to frustrate me so much because I could no longer wear all my existing clothes anymore without looking meaty, chubby and worst, lumpy. All the unsightly lady lumps popping out at all the wrong places- muffin tops la, that annoying fat fold under the bra buckle la, you name it.
Told myself that this year, things will have to change. And coincidentally Solta Medical contacted me to try out their Liposonix treatment, so you can imagine my delight!
How do you like my new tattoos? Hipster much? Lol.
All set and ready to go!
This is the Liposonix System Model 2 machine!
Oh yes, do note that patients are ineligible for treatment if she's pregnant or may be pregnant, lactating, and also patients who have adipose tissue thickness of less than 1.0cm beyond the selected focal depth in the area to be treated! Meaning, if you're too skinny, you can't (and really don't have to) go through the Liposonix treatment!
In a nutshell, the Liposonix treatment:
- Targets the stubborn fats around your waistline
- Gives noticeable results after just one treatment
- Customizable to address specific "problem" areas
- Non surgical with little to no downtime
- Back by over 10 years of research and testing
I went for a constant 45 Joules/cm2 strength for the treatment. The higher the strength the faster and more effective it is, but of course the more painful it is.
I'd be lying if I said it was painless. The pain isn't a surgical kind of pain though. It is gradual, and becomes more painful while targeting sensitive areas near the bones (e.g.: sides/hips), and also when there are more fats to be zapped off! The more painful it is, it means the more effective it actually is.
The doctors prepped me mentally time and again that it'll be painful, and asked if I want to consume an oral painkiller. Being the scardy cat me, I said yes! After all the prep talk I was ready for the worst. But thankfully it was all bearable.
How's the pain like you may wonder?
Well, I liken it to having bad period cramps at one focal spot at a high intensity. Almost like stomach cramping while having diarrhoea but maybe 50x more intense and sharp. Was telling a friend about this and she said, it could be a good chance for guys to experience just what girls go through every months with period cramps! Or even a small glimpse of what it's like giving birth! Lol. Good idea ;)
My doctor sprayed cold water onto my tummy to help soothe the pain a little.
Altogether, I had 16 "boxes" to be treated. The Liposonix handpiece that the doctor held was placed at each box for 45 seconds, and this process repeats for 3x at each box.
I had 16 boxes x 3 times x 45 seconds. So that means I had 2,160 seconds of intense period cramps! Lol but really, though it was painful, but it's nothing that we can't endure. The whole time I was psyching myself into thinking, "No pain, no gain", "Beauty is pain", and imagining my sexy slim abs hahaha!!
After my treatment, a photo with Dr. Jacqueline. She along with Dr. Wong are some of the gentlest doctors I've ever met. Thanks for all the mental prep and care shown towards me throughout the treatment!
Here are some info that might answer your queries!

After the treatment, I was prepped that I would have bruise marks on my tummy area. This is a skin reaction that will be gone within a matter of a week or two. For 2-3 weeks, my tummy area felt as if I did 1000x crunches and sit-ups. The soreness is very much like post intense workout session. But it was minor enough that I could still run 7km the day after my treatment!
The results will be fully shown only after 3 months, and this photo was taken last week, 3 months after my treatment!
I must say I felt and saw visible results even within the first month itself. Coupled with exercise, healthier and cleaner eating these few months, I've managed to gain some nicer contours around my waist, and not so much of muffin tops and fat layer below the bra buckle anymore :P
Also taken last week during my staycation.
I'm happy with the results I've seeing for myself, given that I only had ONE treatment!
Again, this isn't a replacement for a healthy lifestyle, good eating habits and exercise, nor is this for weight loss. It's for those of us who have been struggling to lose targeted areas of fats that are difficult to combat.
As for the pricing of the treatment, it varies for different medical centres, so it's best to check with the respective medical centres personally for an accurate info. I did mine at Beverly Wilshire so you could find out from them! :)
